World Cup 2030. Patrice Motsepe: “the designation of Morocco is a source of pride for Africa”

The official designation of Morocco as host country of the 2030 World Cup, alongside Spain and Portugal, during the Extraordinary FIFA Congress held on Wednesday by videoconference, is “a source of great pride for African football”, indicated the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe. “This day is a source of great pride for African football, because Morocco becomes the second African country in the history of FIFA to host the World Cup,” underlined Mr. Motsepe, quoted in a press release from the Confederation of African Football. “CAF is delighted with this historic event and congratulates Morocco as well as its partners, Portugal and Spain,” he added. “We would like to express our deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God help him, to the Moroccan government and people for having launched and supported Morocco’s candidacy for the 2030 World Cup,” continued Mr. Motsepe. The CAF president said he was “particularly proud” of the “determining” role and “exemplary” leadership of the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, also sending his thanks to the 54 CAF member associations for “their solidarity and unwavering support for Morocco’s candidacy.” According to Mr. Motsepe, “the alliance between Morocco, Portugal and Spain constitutes a symbolic bridge between Africa and Europe through football, and inspires all players in the world of football to work together to make the world a better place”.
