Morocco becomes the 5th economic power in Africa, according to the IMF
On a continent still largely dependent on the exploitation of its natural resources, Morocco is charting a unique path. At the crossroads between a dynamic emerging economy and a rising regional power, the Kingdom is asserting itself as a hybrid model undergoing rapid change. The 2025 ranking of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) illustrates this trajectory well: beyond the figures, a whole qualitative transformation is taking place, driven by a clear desire for integration into regional and international value chains, and by a stated pan-African ambition. With a gross domestic product estimated at $165.8 billion, Morocco ranks fifth among African economies, according to updated IMF projections. A result which confirms its role as an economic engine on the continent. This success is not accidental. It results from a long-term strategic vision, which favored modernization and economic diversification to the detriment of the model based on rent. For more than ten years, the Kingdom has been investing in promising sectors, promoting industrialization, developing infrastructure and banking on innovation to build more resilient and sustainable growth.
The Moroccan economy, among the most diversified on the continent with that of South Africa, is supported by the automobile, aeronautics, offshoring, etc. sectors which contribute, alongside phosphates and agriculture, to the job creation and increased exports.
