Hotel industry: Marrakech facing the summer decline in tourism

Despite its reputation as a flagship destination, Marrakech is experiencing a notable slowdown in its tourist activity this summer. Hospitality professionals are sounding the alarm, observing a declining occupancy rate compared to previous summer seasons. Several factors explain this decline: the persistent heatwave, growing competition from other Mediterranean destinations and the reduction in travel budgets among European tourists. Added to this is a decline in local demand, which is generally dynamic during school holidays. The hotel establishments of the ocher city are multiplying initiatives to attract visitors: promotional offers, wellness packages and themed stays. However, these efforts are struggling to compensate for the slowdown in the market. Faced with this situation, operators in the sector are calling for a coordinated recovery strategy, focusing on the diversification of the tourist offer and better international promotion, particularly in emerging markets.
