Botola Pro: Raja Casablanca at the top of national football
Raja Casablanca, winner of Mouloudia Oujda by a score of 3 goals to 0, in a match of the 30th and final day of Botola Pro D1, played Friday at the Stade d’Honneur in Oujda, rose to the top of national football by winning the 2023-2024 title of the first division championship. + A – A Raja increased its assets to 72 points in first place in Botola, compared to 71 points for its direct pursuer AS FAR which, despite its victory (2-0) against FUS Rabat on the same day, was unable to join the Casablancais at the top of the ranking. Thanks to this coronation, Raja Casablanca wins the 13th championship title in its history, after the seasons 1987-1988, 1995-1996, 1996-1997, 1997-1998, 1998-1999, 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2003-2004, 2008-2009, 2010-2011, 2012-2013 and 2019-2020. It becomes the second most successful club in the national championship, tied with AS FAR, behind Wydad Casablanca, first with 22 coronations. With this new trophy, Raja closes in apotheosis an exceptional season marked by eloquent figures: 21 victories, 0 defeats and 9 draws. The “Green and White” made their mark this season by remaining undefeated, under the leadership of German coach Josef Zinnbauer. Furthermore, Raja Casablanca demonstrated its good offensive form throughout the season with 52 goals scored, behind AS FAR (65 goals), but also its defensive solidity with only 15 goals conceded, compared to 22 for its runner-up. Camped for a long time in the position of runner-up behind AS FAR, the Casablanca club has the merit of having never given in to the frantic pace of the Military who chained victories day after day, showing patience and resilience until the end. Raja waited until the 29th day to steal the leadership chair from AS FAR, thanks to a victory in the derby against their neighbor Wydad Casablanca (1-0) and a draw conceded by the Military against Moghreb Tétouan (2-2). Facing Mouloudia Oujda, relegated to D2 (15th, 25 pts), Raja Casablanca confirmed its invincibility this season and returned to the Botola coronation after the 2019-2020 season. Protagonists of a distant duel at the top, throughout the season, Raja Casablanca and AS FAR, defending champion, engaged in a fierce fight which kept the public in suspense from start to finish, extending the suspense for the title until the last day. With the title of national champion in their pocket, Raja hopes to build on their victorious momentum, now with the Botola-Coupe du Trône double in their sights. Qualified in the semi-finals of the Coupe du Trône, the Casablanca club will try to get their ticket to the final when they face Mouloudia Oujda on June 25 at the Grand Stade d’Agadir. A brilliant run in the African Champions League is the next objective of the “Green and White” who will now be keen to conquer the continental football scene.
