In a festive atmosphere marked by the commemoration of Independence Day and the Revolution of the King and the People, Ourika this morning welcomed the organization of the 10 kilometer race, one of the highlights of its annual festival in its seventh edition, placed under the theme: “ Sport in the service of development”, and orchestrated by the Union of Civil Society Associations.
The start was given at 9 a.m., with the participation of more than seventy runners from different cities.
A competition which combined sporting challenge and the charm of the picturesque nature of the region, as several participants underlined in their statements to the Découverte Maroc camera. In the men’s category, athlete Ibrahim El Amine from Taliouine won first position with a time of 32 minutes and 30 seconds, ahead of his rival Hamza Chellah, who came second with only 12 seconds difference.
Third place went to Ourikien Youssef Ajroud with a time of 33 minutes and 4 seconds. Among the ladies, victory went to Faïza Bechar, who won the race in 43 minutes and 9 seconds. She was followed by Hassnae Berrou in second position with a time of 45 minutes and 39 seconds, while third place was occupied by Siham Sohib, from the city of Essaouira, with a time of 47 minutes and 15 seconds.
The event closed with the presentation of honorary certificates to all the winners, as well as the awarding of cash prizes to the first three in each category: 2000 dirhams for the first, 1500 dirhams for the second and 1000 dirhams for the third, a symbolic initiative which confirms the role of sport as a lever for local development.
