
Tourism: Fez is doing well (+20%)
Tourist nights in classified accommodation establishments in the city of Fez increased by 20% during the first half of 2018, compared to the same period of the previous year.
More than 541,140 overnight stays were recorded during the first 6 months of the current year, compared to 450,602 overnight stays during the same period of 2017, according to statistics from the National Tourism Observatory.
As for arrivals in classified hotels during the same period, they were around 294,587 during the first half of the current year, compared to 238,183 during the same period of 2017, an increase of 24%.
This performance is mainly due to the increase recorded by outbound tourism markets which are maintaining their upward trend, including China, Italy, Germany, Spain, the USA, France, the Netherlands and the Arab countries.
The average length of stay during this semester was 2 days, i.e. a rate identical to that achieved during the same period of 2017, notes the same source.
During the month of June 2018 alone, overnight stays were around 67,420 compared to 45,004 overnight stays during the same month the year before, an increase of 50%.
The number of operational rooms during this month amounted to 4,476 units, including 1,190 in the 5-star category, 1,272 in the 4-star category and 696 in the 3-star category, as well as 733 rooms in guest houses.
As a reminder, no fewer than 947,749 tourist nights were recorded by classified accommodation establishments in Fez in 2017, confirming the improvement in the tourism sector in the spiritual capital of the Kingdom. This result represents an increase of 39% compared to 2016, which recorded 683,052 overnight stays, according to the National Tourism Observatory.
