The ocher city has managed to keep its distinguished image despite the latest attack which struck it. Thus, tourism does not seem to be affected by this attack, according to statistics displayed by the Morocco Tourism Observatory.
According to these statistics, a slight decrease could be recorded for hotels classified 4 stars and 5 stars, while club hotels recorded a slight increase, for overnight stays during the month of April 2011 compared to the same month last year.
However, a fairly clear drop was noted for one or two star hotels for the month of April (-26% and -10%). It must be said that tourists always have a certain apprehension about small hotels.
The same observation can be made regarding the period of the first four months of the year 2011. Hotels classified 1 star and 2 stars recorded a decrease, respectively, of -21% and -8% and even the four stars with a decrease of -10%, while hotels classified 5 stars as well as club hotels saw a considerable increase of 9% and 25%; which gives, on average, an increase in nights spent in classified tourist accommodation establishments in Marrakech of +2%.
The figures put forward seem quite satisfactory, however hotel establishments classified from one star to four stars should work even more on their image for a deserved tourist boost for the ocher city.
