Tourism in Morocco: 4.4 million seats secured for the summer season
The Minister of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, affirmed that the beginnings of a good summer season have begun to take shape, in particular with the recent performances of the tourism sector. “The beginnings of a good summer season began to take shape in May, which showed exceptional occupancy rates compared to May 2019, particularly in the cities of Marrakech with an average of 70%, Agadir with 63%, Fez and Rabat with 59%, Casablanca with 53% and Tangier with 61%,” Ammor said in an interview with MAP. Tourism, she noted, experienced a lasting recovery during the last summer season of 2022, which was marked by the return to normal performance of this sector. “We are committed to accelerating the pace for the year 2023, particularly during the summer period, by exceeding the figures reached in 2022,” indicated the minister, emphasizing the signing of several partnerships, in particular with the TUI group which will cover the next five years, from summer 2023 to winter 2027-2028, with the possibility of doubling the number of tourist arrivals in Morocco with a growth rate of approximately 220% and with the travel agency AllTours, covering two seasons: summer 2023 and winter 2023-2024. And to continue: “We have, through the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), secured 4.4 million seats with 19 airlines for the summer season.” Ms. Ammor also recalled that the year 2023 will be a record year in terms of flight scheduling, with the opening of 23 new lines this summer, serving 8 Moroccan destinations connected to 9 foreign markets, operated by 10 airlines, with a total capacity of more than 244,000 seats. In terms of programming of Moroccan destinations by travel agencies, 14 partnerships have been sealed with international online agencies with the aim of reaching 4.3 million nights and 50 partnerships with traditional travel agencies with the forecast of reaching more than 860,000 customers, she said. “Also, we will continue to consolidate our promotional efforts through the Morocco, Land of Lights campaign on the main foreign export markets. Without forgetting the effects of the exceptional momentum that our country is experiencing at the international level, which will extend throughout the year 2023,” added the minister.
