Tourism: Northern opportunities highlighted in Portugal

The Agency for the Promotion and Development of the North (APDN) has just launched a new operation to seduce the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region in the Portuguese Republic.

This seduction operation took place as part of the Moroccan cultural days organized recently, in Cascais, located more precisely around thirty kilometers west of Lisbon. And this in celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Portugal and the Kingdom of Morocco. “The APDN promoted the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region to the Portuguese public and an international population largely present during this event,”according to a press release recently issued by the APDN.

This major event was, continues the same source, an opportunity for the Agency to publicize the different territories of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region and to present the specificities and the multiple economic, social and cultural actions undertaken in the northern region. Visitors were thus impressed by the dynamism and opportunities of this region through the presentation of products and information  within an institutional stand set up to achieve this objective. “In this same context, the APDN encouraged three cooperatives from the Northern region to market products from the social and solidarity economy on the Cascais market, open from July 7 to 9, 2017, in order to increase their international visibility, exchange their skills and introduce products from the Jbala region to the general public”, those responsible for the agency would like to clarify through this same document.

Made up by women and young girls weavers from Tangier, Arouss Chamal was among the three lucky beneficiaries of this initiative. The members of this northern cooperative have the particularity of working all their products by hand, including Mendil Jebli. The APDN also chose the Tetouan cooperative Raihan to exhibit, during this event, organic cosmetic and food products made from aromatic and medicinal plants from the Tetouan region. Designated as the third women’s cooperative to benefit from this initiative, Arte de Joyeria presented, during this event, silver jewelry from the Chefchaouen region.

The APDN took advantage of this opportunity to discover the Andalusian musical heritage more interpreted by the population of the Northern region. She thus organized, on the sidelines of these days, for the benefit of the local public and visitors to Cascais two musical evenings, where the young Tetouanese singer Zainab Afailal sang with her crystal clear voice the most beautiful pieces of a specific repertoire of this region.
