Souss-Massa region: The regional development plan adopted on March 6
The region intends to work on its positioning by targeting the strengthening of its economic fabric with a choice dedicated to accelerating an industry with high potential.
The Souss-Massa region is preparing to adopt its regional development plan after long development sessions. An adoption scheduled as part of the ordinary session of March 6. The backbone of the regional development plan for the Souss-Massa region will primarily consist of 25 flagship projects with an investment amount of MAD 24.5 billion. This plan will now be the map that will trace development actions for the region in future years. Two objectives are assigned to this plan. This involves boosting the traditional engines of growth in the region (tourism, agriculture and fishing) by injecting new positioning and promotion. An intelligent seaside resort is thus included on this tourism roadmap with maximization of agricultural productivity and promotion of both seafood and agricultural products. Aquaculture is one of the pivots of this development. Let us recall the signing by the region and the ANDA of an agreement on the aquaculture zone of the region. Furthermore, in terms of industry, the region intends to work on its positioning by targeting the strengthening of its economic fabric with a choice dedicated to accelerating an industry with high potential. In this regard, we note the naval industry, mining, renewable energies and the creation of a free zone.
The financing part will be done with a participation from the Regional Council of 3.1 billion dirhams (15%) of the total investment required. The remaining 85% will be provided by municipalities, the private sector and decentralized services. The region also called on the Municipal Equipment Fund with a credit of 1.4 billion dirhams and a debt capacity of 2 billion dirhams. The six development companies that will be established will be dedicated, among others, to the tourism sector, heritage, creation of the wholesale market, development, transport and mobility at the regional level. Arep will play the role of pilot of this plan.
