Royal Air Maroc launches hotel stays abroad payable in Dirhams

Is this a marketing shift? A simple innovation? A new product made necessary or possible by market and technological developments?

Thanks to a partnership with the site nuitee.com, RAM has launched into booking with a platform offering thousands of hotels, apartments and villas in Morocco and around the world.

A new marketing approach knowing that its customers will be able to pay in Moroccan currency without ceiling (by bank card or directly at the chosen hotel) for their nights.

This will therefore allow them to spend as much money as they want for their accommodation abroad and above all to save the amount of their tourist allowance (40,000 DH in 2 minimum installments).

In addition, once they have reserved and paid by credit card, they will have the possibility of canceling their choice in the event of an incapacity if they choose the cancellation option which is free.

An internal company source tells us that this offer is aimed at everyone and not just those who will buy a plane ticket from RAM. Our source also specified that several transactions have already been recorded as soon as the site opened on Tuesday October 16.

Médias24 tried to connect to thesitewhich was down but our contact assured us that it was under maintenance on Friday 19th and would be operational at the end of the day.

Sunday October 21, we tested the site which was working normally. For example, a 3-night stay in Barcelona at the end of October was offered at prices between 320 DH (1 star) and 13,000 DH (5 stars).

Asked whether RAM’s approach would not lead to illegal outflows of currencies, Hassan Boulaknadel, director general of the Foreign Exchange Office, assured that everything was legal.

« Internet sites and travel agencies that have captives have the right to sell services in dirhams even if they are payable in convertible currencies (euros, dollars, etc.).

« They are authorized by our services to make these sales to the extent that they draw their currencies from their turnover achieved with international customers (captives). The windfall of foreign currency available to them, as exporters of services, is used to purchase products such as hotel stays for the benefit of Moroccans…

« The ceiling to which RAM is subject is its foreign currency cushion that it has accumulated by selling its services (in this case plane tickets) to foreigners who paid in internationally convertible currency. The national company will therefore draw on its foreign currency account to pay its suppliers (hotels, etc.)« , explains the general director of the foreign exchange office.
