Nuclear technology: Morocco reaffirms its commitment to South-South cooperation
Morocco, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, remains firmly committed to the principles of South-South cooperation and African solidarity in the field of nuclear technology, said Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition, during the 68th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. She stressed that the Kingdom continues to promote the peaceful use of nuclear technologies for development and peace, particularly in Africa. Ms. Benali recalled that Morocco shares its expertise, in partnership with the IAEA, in areas such as the environment, agriculture and health. She also highlighted the distinctions received by several Moroccan institutions, such as CNESTEN and the National Institute of Oncology in Rabat, for their contribution to the peaceful applications of nuclear power and the training of African experts. Addressing the crucial challenges linked to the management of water resources, the minister insisted on the importance of strengthened international cooperation. Morocco, in this context, submitted a resolution to the G77 on the use of small and medium-sized nuclear reactors for the production of drinking water, thus underlining the urgent need for inclusive multilateral action.
