A heatstroke on the 12th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival which opened Friday November 30 and will continue until December 8. This warmth was given to this event by the organization, Saturday, December 1, of a dinner offered by HM King Mohammed VI to the participants in the festival and chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, by a choreography performed by an Indian troupe led by a dancer named “Malaika”. A show that sparked a big ovation in the room! And as is FIFM tradition, the first evening of this event was devoted to the presentation of the members of the feature film jury.
Chaired by John Boorman, who appeared on stage slowly given his advanced age, the jury is made up of Gemma Arterton, Marie Josée Croze, Pierfransesco Favino, Jillali Ferhati, James Gray, Jeon Soo-Il, Sharmila Tagore and Lambert Wilson. During the opening ceremony, the president of the jury, who expressed the wish to shoot a film in Morocco, indicated that “the most important thing in a festival is not its jury, but its selection. I can’t wait to discover the selected films and in particular those from Africa. As a filmmaker, I know how difficult it is to make a film and even more difficult to make a good one. I salute all those who found their way to Marrakech. The first evening of the festival was also marked by a tribute to the French artist, Isabelle Huppert, who was presented with the trophy from the hands of James Gray, member of the jury, who described her as “a titan”. On this occasion, Isabelle Huppert declared: “My real reward is to meet the Moroccan public.”
After the tribute, it was time for the opening film “Touch of the light”, presented by Huang Yu-Siang and Sandrine Pinna who were delighted that the film in which they were participating opened the way for the official competition.
The second day of the festival, Saturday, vibrated to the rhythm of the tribute paid to Indian cinema which is celebrating its centenary in 2013. The Bollywood stars, led by Amitabh Bachchan, who were honored by French actress Catherine Deneuve, were warmly greeted with a standing ovation, especially from the appearance of Shah Rukh Khan, who had been eagerly awaited since last year!
