Hospitality: Online sales. Independent hoteliers focus on collaboration and fairness
hotel booking Bookbeddder is a new hotel booking site. A different site. Another way to advertise accommodation establishments. An initiative that will help the hotel community helps reduce the cost of reservations.
Low prices. 300,000 hotels and collaborative loyalty.
It takes place in Lausanne in Switzerland. “Independent hoteliers are betting on “collaboration” and fairness in order to fight against Booking or even AirBnb,” specifies the press release from the new entity. With BookBedder.com hoteliers have created their own fair alternative in online hotel booking. In order to continue its development, Bookbedder is launching a crowdfunding campaign between hoteliers.
Due to their ease of use, and the diversity and quantity of offers they offer, OTAs have become essential for customers to book their hotel online. Despite all the attempts made by hoteliers to bring customers back to direct booking, independent hoteliers cannot compete with the marketing power of these OTAs who spend billions of dollars on advertising to attract customers from all over the world.
With controversial business practices, hoteliers around the world regret the unbalanced relationship with OTAs like Booking.com or Expedia. From the Senate to the competition authority, several measures attack these commercial practices, without fully satisfying the demands of hoteliers.
Collaboration to the rescue of independent hoteliers
As a result of these frustrations, hotels now have their own distribution platform: BookBedder.com. Hotels are now collaborating to promote BookBedder and encourage their own guests to book more fairly.
The customer has access to better prices and is offered an alternative that is comparable to other sites. In exchange BookBedder.com shares revenue from their customers’ reservations elsewhere in the world with hoteliers. This is a first: online distribution is thus becoming a source of income for hoteliers.
Skye Legon, CEO of BookBedder.com: “It’s a collaboration between hoteliers on an international level. Instead of spending millions of euros on advertising, we have chosen to allocate our marketing costs more intelligently, by paying hoteliers. Everyone should be a winner: hoteliers and their customers. To resolve this great dilemma of online distribution we are convinced that it is essential that hotels are engaged directly.”
A crowdfunding campaign between independent hotels
In addition to having certain hoteliers active as investors, the platform is developing thanks to a crowdfunding campaign (crowdfunding) intended for hotels. The crowdfunding campaign, which began on June 15 of this year, aims to accelerate current developments, while in return offering exclusive advantages for these hoteliers.
This campaign is limited to the first 500 hotels and BookBedder wishes to raise 300,000 EUR with the aim of accelerating its growth globally.
The BookBedder team is based within the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne incubator in Switzerland, and is made up of hoteliers and engineers. BookBedder.com was launched in Beta version at the beginning of 2015, and has 300,000 hotels in its catalog (and around fifty independent hoteliers in direct partnership).
