Morocco candidate to organize the 2019 U20 World Cup
It is next May, on the sidelines of the opening of the U20 World Cup, organized by South Korea from May 20 to June 11, 2017, that applications will be submitted to host the next World Cup, scheduled for 2019.
The daily Al Massae, in its edition of Thursday April 6, reports that Morocco would very likely be a candidate for the organization of this Youth World Cup, which will take place in two years (2019). Until today, no country has yet come forward to host such an event.
The Moroccan authorities would be all the more inclined to submit the kingdom’s candidacy for this World Cup, as the latter would, if awarded, serve as a test in anticipation of the full-scale candidacy for the 2026 World Cup. They were only waiting, according to Al Massae, for the end of the government blockade, which ended this Wednesday, April 5 with the official announcement of the composition of the Saâd Eddine El Othmani government, to place on its table the file that Morocco intends to present the next few weeks at FIFA.
All chances are on Morocco’s side to be awarded the 2019 U20 World Cup, especially since the continent has not organized such a biannual event since 2009. Its infrastructure is up to standard, with stadiums meeting international standards located in Rabat, Tangier, Marrakech, Casablanca, Agadir, Fez… linked by good quality highways, railways and airports. It remains to find the deposit of some 40 million dollars that the candidate country must release as a guarantee.
If awarded this World Cup, Morocco would be the 4th African country to organize it after Tunisia (1977), Nigeria (1999) and Egypt (2009).
