Tourism: A Moroccan delegation present in Madrid for FITUR
The Secretary of State for Tourism, Ms. Lamia BOUTALEB, accompanied by a large delegation of Moroccan tourism operators, is taking part in the 38th edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which is being held in Madrid from January 17 to 21, 2018.
The participation of the Moroccan delegation aims to explore new avenues for partnerships and strengthen the visibility of Morocco among Spanish tourists and the various countries participating in FITUR. Multiple communication actions have therefore been undertaken to promote the Morocco destination.
On the sidelines of this mission, the Secretary of State for Tourism held a working session with Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili. Mr. Pololikashvili has been the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) since January 1, 2018. As a reminder, Morocco, which is a founding member of the UNWTO, has adhered to the statutes of this Organization since its creation in 1975. Several actions have been carried out within the framework of the partnership with this specialized UN agency. Among other things, it supported the Department of Tourism in the implementation of the new classification system for tourist accommodation establishments, in the development of rural tourism as well as in the development of the African Charter for Sustainable and Responsible Tourism (CATDR).
Ms. BOUTALEB then met with the Portuguese Minister of Economy, Mr. Manuel Caldeira Cabral and Ms. Ana Mendes Godinho, Secretary of State for Tourism of Portugal, also present at the Show. During the discussions, it was a question of returning to the quality of Moroccan-Portuguese cooperation in the tourism sector. This cooperation, let us remember, took a new step last December, during the 13th session of the Morocco-Portugal High Level Meeting in Rabat and at the end of which the 2018/2020 tourism application program was signed. The meeting with Portuguese officials responsible for tourism was also an opportunity to discuss the Portuguese model of training in the tourism sector and governance while discussing the horizons for improving the cooperation that links the two countries in the tourism sector.
