“Agadir Morocco Triathlon”, a flagship stage in the race towards the 2020 Olympics
Morocco’s only Olympic triathlon returns for an 8th edition with high stakes. The “Agadir Morocco Triathlon” will bring together, on November 3 in the capital of Souss, some 600 triathletes representing 21 countries, namely Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Great Britain, Portugal, Turkey, Hungary, Mauritius, Syria, the United States, France, Hungary, Japan, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Georgia, Lithuania and Morocco. This competition, which constitutes a stage of the “ATU Africa Cup” circuit, is a real boon for participants seeking qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, since the points collected in Agadir will be counted in doubles. The Moroccan participation will be ensured by the African vice-champion Mehdi Essadiq, the Arab vice-champion Amine Farih, Nabil Kouzkouz and Mohamed Nemsi, who should redouble their efforts during the 3 events of the day (1,500 m swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) to improve their ranking at the international level established by the International Triathlon Federation (ITU).
Organized by the Moroccan Association “Sport and Culture” under the aegis of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sport for All and the African Triathlon Confederation (ATU), in partnership with the Agadir Souss-Massa Regional Tourism Council, and with the support of the Wilaya of the region and the urban commune of Agadir, this event is an opportunity to celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the glorious Green March. The 600 participants of this edition will compete to succeed the Russian Vladimir Turbayevskiy and the Swede Amanda Bohlin, champions of the 7th edition.
