Morocco’s pioneering experience in women’s rights highlighted in Amman

The Moroccan Constitution enshrines gender equality. At the Dialogue of Arab Parliaments in Amman, Morocco’s pioneering experience in protecting and promoting women’s rights was praised. Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco has made significant progress in women’s empowerment and gender equality. The Moroccan delegation presented the significant legislative reforms adopted since the constitutional amendment of 2011. Ms. Najwa Koukouss, president of the Thematic Working Group on Equality and Parity in the House of Representatives, detailed the reforms aimed at promoting gender equality, in line with UN SDG-5. The Moroccan Constitution enshrines gender equality and emphasizes equal opportunities and the empowerment of women. The Dialogue, organized by ESCWA in partnership with the Arab League and UN-Women, aims to exchange experiences and assess progress made since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration in 1995. It addresses themes such as women’s participation in public life, protection against violence, and the rights of vulnerable women. This forum is crucial to accelerate the application of strategies for the advancement of women and eliminate obstacles to their full participation in society.
