record growth in the first half of 2024

The Kingdom is a destination of choice for international tourists. The year 2024 marks the peak of the Kingdom’s policy in terms of welcoming tourists. Indeed, Morocco positions itself as a major player in world tourism thanks to its air connection capabilities, the diversification of the tourist offer, the strengthening of infrastructure, the development of internal tourism and the qualification of human resources. The Kingdom went from 34th position in the world in 2019 to 22nd in 2022. In 2023, tourism in Morocco reached a historic milestone. Indeed, Morocco welcomed 14.5 million tourists in 2023, a remarkable increase of +34% compared to 2022 and +12% compared to 2019. Moroccans residing abroad represented 51% of these arrivals, recording growth of +27% compared to 2022. Foreign tourists, for their part, recorded significant growth of +41% compared to 2022. In terms of overnight stays, we see an exceptional development. Indeed, nearly 25.6 million nights were spent in classified tourist accommodation establishments (EHTC), recording a significant increase of 35% compared to 2022. In terms of travel receipts, we see an absolute record in 2023. Indeed, after record arrivals, it is the turn of travel receipts in foreign currencies to record an absolute record of 105 billion dirhams in 2023. This is growth of 12% compared to 2022, confirming the exceptional dynamics of tourism in 2023 and the position of tourism as one of the largest providers of foreign currency for the Kingdom. There is a 40% increase in air transport seats in 2024. The Kingdom welcomed 14.5 million tourists, thus generating 105 billion dirhams in revenue in currencies. The establishment of several partnerships with tour operators and online travel agencies, the promotion and improvement of air connections, the diversification of the tourist offer, the strengthening of infrastructure, the development of internal tourism and the qualification of human resources have all contributed to this growth. Furthermore, the development of internal tourism includes two important sectors: internal tourism – seaside and internal tourism – nature and discovery. The development of new tourism products meets the requirements of Moroccan tourists. The challenge would be to encourage internal tourism throughout the year, so that Moroccans can benefit from the tourist assets of their country. Human resources include three dedicated programs: the “middle managers” program, the “quality continuing training” program and the “validation of acquired experience” program for the benefit of 7,550 people between 2023 and 2026. The roadmap provides a guideline for the Kingdom’s tourism policy. Through the digital indicators collected, Morocco recorded record achievements in the tourism sector, with 14.5 million tourists having visited the Kingdom in 2023, an increase of 34% compared to 2022. The sector also attracted 105 billion dirhams in foreign exchange revenue in 2023, an increase of 27 billion dirhams compared to 2019. Furthermore, the Kingdom experienced growth exceptional in the first half of 2024, with the arrival of 7.4 million tourists. This re presents an increase of 14% compared to the first half of 2023 and of 38% compared to that of 2019. The objectives anticipated 1 million additional tourists for the year 2024. Likewise, Morocco welcomed around 900,000 additional tourists in six months.
