What François Hollande will offer to Mohammed VI

French President François Hollande will attend the work of the World Climate Conference (COP22) which is currently taking place in Marrakech. He will take this opportunity to offer a gift to King Mohammed VI.

This gift is a sculpture by the artist from Sète, Jean Denant, who bears the name Mare Nostrum. It is “a monumental cutting in shiny stainless steel that reproduces the geography of the Mediterranean basin”, explains the Midi Libre website and the work still weighs 150 kg and measures 4.30 meters by 2.

The idea for this gift was suggested to François Hollande by the Minister of Culture of Moroccan origin Audrey Azoulay who discovered a first version of this sculpture a few months ago.

Interviewed by the newspaper, the article considers that “it is a work both poetic and political which presents the Mediterranean not as an impassable border but as a unifying link. It gives a humanist vision of the world.”

Note that the French president is expected in Morocco on November 15.
