The Green March, an exemplary Moroccanness By Jean-Marie Heydt
During the celebration of the 48th anniversary of the Green March, His Majesty King Mohammed VI reiterated his commitment to the fundamental values of this remarkable epic. Dr Jean-Marie Heydt highlighted the historical influence of this event, which opened regional perspectives and promoted economic development, while emphasizing the need for an approach based on humanity and dialogue to resolve conflicts. On the occasion of the celebration of the 48th anniversary of the Green March, His Majesty King Mohammed VI reaffirmed His attachment to “(…) the values of this glorious epic and the importance of His fidelity” to this eternal oath. On this occasion, he demonstrates to the international community the importance of the distinctive brand of Morocco in terms of an integrated value system. This generates the necessary impetus allowing openness to others and the development of solidarity. It is these same ancestral values of loyalty, courage and patriotism, which will contribute to ensuring that everyone, the living forces of the Nation, continues to put their heart into work to carry out projects and reforms. Half a century ago, the Green March made it possible to liberate the Moroccan Sahara, it gave hope and a future to the Saharan peoples. Today it also opens up prospects on an international scale, to the Sahel States, to sub-Saharan peoples and more generally to the entire Atlantic strip of the African continent. He is launching an “(…) initiative to create an institutional framework bringing together the 23 Atlantic African States with a view to consolidating security, stability and shared prosperity in the region”. His Majesty is convinced that His initiative “(…) will substantially transform the economy of sister countries”. It completes its offer by offering to make its infrastructure and networks available to them. And the Atlantic vocation of the southern provinces can only strengthen this offer to sister countries. His Majesty underlined the importance of ensuring the human dimension, that of dialogue, to resolve difficulties and problems. He insists that “(…) the solution cannot be exclusively security or military, but must be based on an approach of cooperation and common development. » The example of the economic growth and urban expansion of the metropolises of the Moroccan Sahara demonstrate that in just two decades the kingdom had been able to create an unparalleled territorial evolution for the benefit of the women and men of the southern provinces. His Majesty makes it “(…) a duty to continue the steps of development, modernization and construction undertaken to ensure the conditions for a dignified life (…)”. Faithful to His vision of the world, His Majesty regretted the maneuvers of adversaries, both declared and hidden, while remaining fully confident for a better future. Proof of this is his “outstretched hand” policy that he continues to propose in response to the various regular strategies used against the territorial integrity of Morocco. PhD. Jean-Marie Heydt, Author and observer of international policies.
