CAN U17: Morocco qualified against Algeria, Tunisia eliminated
The qualifications for the Under-17 CAN in North Africa (UNAF) finally revealed all their secrets at the end of the final day played this Saturday. Since its defeat against Egypt (2-3) last Wednesday, Tunisia has seen a sword of Damocles hanging above its head. And rightly so. Because this Saturday, the Egyptians obtained the lead of the Carthage Eagles through their success over Libya (2-0) at the Père Jego stadium in Casablanca. A victory which quickly took shape, with the opening of the score in the 3rd minute of play by Hamza Abdelkarim. The Al Ahly center forward took advantage of a favorable counterattack in the area to beat the opposing goalkeeper on his right. Just before the half-hour mark, Mohamed Hamad capitalized on a deflection from a partner following a long throw from the right, to propel the ball into the back of the net at the far post (26th). Morocco wins the point of happiness The Pharaohs thus double Tunisia in the ranking, inevitably relegated to third place synonymous with elimination. But not only that. Their performance also allows them to take the lead to the detriment of Morocco who still qualified following the draw against Algeria (1-1) at the Bachir stadium in Mohammedia. The Algerians, already eliminated, thought they would finish on a good note by unlocking the scoreboard in the 5th minute thanks to a strike into the empty goal by Achouri Abderrahmane, served on a plate by Fettouche Benaissa, author of a fantastic rush on the right. But the Moroccans equalized on a corner kicked from the left in the 58th, thanks to a helmet hit to the far post from Bilal Soukrat, helped by the catastrophic exit of goalkeeper Benachour Kamel. The Moroccans therefore take second place and win the second and final qualifying ticket for the CAN U17. Algeria does not move from its fourth place. Ditto for the red lantern Libya, showing a zero on the counter.
The final ranking of the UNAF U17 Tournament
Egypt, 9 points (qualified)
Morocco, 8 points (qualified)
Tunisia, 7 points
Algeria, 4 points
Libya, 0 points
