Rail transport: Korea promises public funding and technology transfer
The promotion of cooperation between Morocco and Korea in the field of rail transport and logistics was at the center of a meeting, Friday in Rabat, between the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, and the Korean Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Baek Won Kug. During this meeting, the two parties examined ways to promote cooperation between Morocco and Korea, particularly in the rail transport sector. In a statement to the press, Mr. Abdeljalil underlined the importance of transport infrastructure projects in Morocco, carried out under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Also, the minister did not fail to recall Morocco’s strategic position in the region, highlighting the railway projects managed by the National Railway Office (ONCF). “Korea has leading companies in this field, and we aspire to expand our exchanges of expertise in order to benefit from their experience, particularly in terms of smart mobility and transport of the future,” said Mr. Abdeljalil. The government official also expressed hope that these discussions will lead to a fruitful partnership, with the upcoming signing of an agreement in this area. For his part, the Korean Deputy Minister, Baek Won Kug, praised Moroccan expertise in research applied to infrastructure, underlining the importance of the project to acquire railway rolling stock, including high-speed trains (TGV). “Based on the mutual trust between our two countries, Korea is committed to supporting job creation, public financing and technology transfer, in collaboration with Korean companies,” he said. He also expressed his wish to expand bilateral cooperation beyond the railway sector, to include all transport and logistics sectors. “We will actively continue this collaboration in the future,” he maintained. This meeting is a continuation of the meeting held last July in Rabat between Mr. Abdeljalil and the Korean Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Sangwoo Park.
