Tangier: The El Minzah hotel closed for renovation

The renovation work on El Minzah hotel has just been launched as planned. Inaugurated in April 1930,“El Minzah has just closed its doors for the first time for renovation work. We believe that now is the time to launch this work in order to ensure the reopening of the hotel at the beginning of next July,” indicates the general manager of El Minzah hotel, Hansueli Egli. Downgraded from two stars in September 2016, El Minzah has since been among the three-star hotels in Tangier. A hard blow for its management team and the Royal Hotel & Resort, the hotel chain that owns this legendary establishment. Their common ambition is to allow, thanks to this new project, El Minzah to regain its place as a five-star luxury hotel. Those responsible for this project seem to want to draw inspiration from the experience of the Grand Hôtel Villa de France, built in the 19th century and itself owned by the Royal Hotel & Resor, which reopened its doors, thanks to extensive renovation work, after more than twenty years of its closure. But with the only difference that El Minzah hotel will be, according to the pre-established schedule, ready before next summer. The interest of the Royal Hotel & Resort focuses, as was the case with Villa de France, on the preservation of the soul of El Minzah, which is one of the legendary hotels in Morocco and is considered a jewel of the Tangiers hotel industry. To do this, “this renovation work consists of upgrading the entire premises of El Minzah”, underlines Mr. Egli, noting that“all technical installations including the boiler, air conditioning, heat pumps and gas pipes will be completely upgraded”.

This project consists of the in-depth renovation of the hotel’s kitchens and restaurants, the condition of which contributed to its downgrading by the control commission of the Ministry of Tourism. This allows them to meet the hygiene requirements for a five-star hotel. This project also includes the renovation and improvement of the comfort of the 140 rooms, including around twenty suites. It also involves redoing the common areas and the swimming pool area of the hotel.

This renovation project will be accompanied by an operation to strengthen the management of this hotel by professionals, known in the Moroccan and French hotel industry. The management team seeks to improve the quality of service and the brand image of this hotel. According to Hicham Naciri, sales and marketing director at El Minzah hotel, it is already preparing its reopening. “We continue to receive reservations for the month of July”, he said, emphasizing the importance of “our clientele made up of 80% foreigners and 20% nationals”.
