CFG Bank analyzes the outlook for the Moroccan economy for 2024
According to the latest analyzes from CFG Bank, in its “macroeconomic outlook & market 2024” report, the Moroccan economy is preparing for moderate growth in 2024, with a GDP growth rate forecast at 3.2%. This progression, although slightly higher than that of the previous year (2.7%), remains below pre-crisis levels, according to data from the document. The significant contribution of agriculture (+5%) has been an important driver of this growth, offering encouraging prospects despite persistent challenges. In the area of foreign trade, the figures for the end of December 2023 reveal an interesting trend: if imports fell by 2.9% to reach 715.7 billion dirhams, exports increased slightly by 0.2%, amounting to 429.3 billion dirhams. This dynamic helped to reduce the trade deficit by 7.3%, bringing it to 286.4 billion dirhams. At the same time, the banking sector recorded a solid increase of 5.2% in loans, reaching 1,114.5 billion dirhams, with a notable increase in the equipment (+10.2%) and real estate (+1.2%) sectors. Despite these challenges, these figures reflect a resilient Moroccan economy, with signs of growth in some key sectors. The relative stability of sovereign rates in 2024, supported by a clear reduction in inflation since its peak in February 2023, also testifies to the solidity of the Moroccan financial market in an uncertain global context.
