The CRT (Regional Tourism Council – Marrakech) held its elective general assembly corresponding to the 2009 – 2011 mandate at the Four Season Hotel in Marrakech on Friday, May 4. At the end of this Assembly and after the approval of the moral and financial reports and the auditor’s report, relating to the 2010 and 2011 financial years, followed by the discharge given to the outgoing office, Hamid BENTAHAR was reappointed as president by the unanimous vote of the members present.

In addition to Mr. Le Wali, Honorary President of the CRT, the representatives of the three colleges which constitute the CRT participated in the work of this Assembly, namely the representatives of the councils of elected officials and professional chambers (The MTH Regional Council, The Town Hall, and the Municipal Council of Mechouar Kasbah); the presidents of professional associations: the Association of the Hotel Industry (AIH), the Regional Association of Travel Agencies (ARAVM); The Regional Association of Restaurateurs, The Regional Association of Guides and Tour Guides); the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services; representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and institutional partners (ONMT, RAM, ONDA, CRI).

After the presentation of the activity report and financial reports, the Wali intervened to pay tribute to the outgoing president and his teams for the work accomplished by the CRT by assuring the president and professionals of the support of local authorities who will continue to support them in the areas of security, urban upgrading and improvement of reception and stay conditions for tourists, in close collaboration with the advice of elected officials.

The Wali also insisted on the need to provide the CRT with more resources to enable it to accomplish its mission in better conditions. The various interventions focused, in general, on the assessment of the CRT, judged largely satisfactory by all the speakers, as well as on the need to remain vigilant by redoubling our efforts, to mobilize all energies, in order to face a situation which remains difficult for the months to come.
L AG’s work ended at 6:30 p.m.

It should be remembered that Hamid Bentahar, previously General Director of Sofitel operations for Morocco, was recently appointed Vice President of Sofitel Operations Europe South and Africa. This new appointment is part of the new strategy of increasing the value of the Sofitel brand.
Hamid Bentahar is based in Marrakech where he continues to supervise all Sofitel Maroc as well as Sofitel operations in Southern Europe and Africa, covering the following countries: Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain, Algeria, Equatorial Guinea and all other developments on the African continent and Southern Europe.
Hamid Bentahar joined the Accor group in 1989. After a successful experience within the Palmariva Marrakech, he held positions of responsibility internationally, notably in Greece, France and Tunisia then in Turkey.  In February 2008, he was appointed deputy director of Sofitel operations for southern Morocco.
His training, combined with a perfect mastery of the luxury hotel and tourism sector, earned him the promotion, in May 2010, to General Manager of Sofitel Maroc operations.  This appointment is part of the strategy aimed at repositioning the Sofitel brand in the luxury segment. With six exceptional addresses and three under construction, Sofitel Luxury Hotels is the only luxury hotel brand present in the most beautiful destinations in the Kingdom.  After the Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & spa, two new hotels are added to the list, the Sofitel Thalassa Sea & Spa opened in Agadir last March and Sofitel Casablanca which will open soon.
Our sincere congratulations to Hamid Bentahar and our warm wishes for success in this responsibility at the head of CRT Marrakech, for the second time. This honors him, honors the young executives of the tourism sector in Morocco, as well as the Accor Group within which Hamid learned the profession in his letters of nobility.
