Marrakech courted by airlines

Good prospects for tourism in Marrakech for next year. Several airlines are announcing new routes or even strengthening existing ones. When we know that air travel is the crux of the matter, the arrival of new low-cost airlines or the opening of new services makes it possible to further develop the Morocco destination.

Indeed, they can capture a significant clientele thanks to their distribution tools and especially their strength in digital promotion. This is how, starting next winter, several companies will develop the Marrakech Austria route, a market that is still little exploited. Air Arabia has just announced the opening of a new airline route accessible from next winter between the cities of Marrakech and Vienna.

This is the sixth line operated by Air Arabia Maroc from the ocher city to Europe, the company already serving Frankfurt, Montpellier, Pau, London and Paris. The Marrakech-Vienna flight will be operational from October 29 with two weekly flights on Mondays and Thursdays, and will be operated by the Air Arabia Maroc fleet, made up of Airbus A320s.

Another low-cost positioning itself on the Austrian route, the company Laudamotion, which plans to launch 2 weekly rotations (Thursday and Sunday) to Marrakech-Menara airport, aboard Airbus A320, from next winter. Air Arabia and Laudamotion will compete with the company SunExpress Deutschland, which has been present on this route for two years. The British market is not left out.

British Airways plans to connect Marrakech to the largest airport in London and England, London Heathrow with 4 flights per week. The launch of this new line will take place from the fall. Until then British Airways offered London Gatwick airport with 8 flights per week.

Note that the British market is a priority for tourism in Marrakech and for the entire kingdom. The abundance of historical sites and the splendor of artisanal products constitute a major asset in achieving the objective set by Morocco for the English market. Overall and through this air strategy, the ONMT wants to make this market one of the leading providers of tourists in Morocco.

Indeed, the diversity of the national offer should allow us to attract more British tourists, indicate ONMT managers. Already in the first 3 months of 2018, Marrakech alone has received nearly 50,000 British tourists, making nearly 224,000 overnight stays, and placing itself as the second source market. For its part, Ryanair will strengthen its air connections between Marrakech and several European cities from next fall.

The ocher city airport will now serve the cities of Bratislava (two flights per week on Tuesdays and Saturdays), Bordeaux (Mondays and Fridays), Oslo (one flight every Thursday), Stockholm (one flight every Friday) and Stuttgart (Thursdays and Sundays).
