Marrakech Best golf destination for 2015
The International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) has named Marrakech as the best golf destination of the year 2015 for Africa, the Gulf Countries and the Indian Ocean.
The announcement was made at the International Golf Travel Market Gala Dinner at Villa Erba, Lake Como, Italy. The Moroccan delegation which received the prize included Abderrafie Zouitene, CEO of the ONMT, Mustapha Zine, Deputy President of the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation and Younes El Bakkali of the Hassan II Golf Trophy Association.
Morocco and the city of Marrakech were named the best golf destination for the year 2015, crowning a continuous effort to improve the quality of its services, the welcome and the professionalism of its golf services.
Marrakech was competing against very large golf destinations in South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, the Maldives and Mauritius. It must be said that in Morocco, Marrakech is the golf city par excellence, with more than 10 different golf courses, designed by famous names like Robert Trent Jones, Kyle Philips, Jack Nicklaus and Colin Montgomery.
This consecration is the result of the partnership between the Moroccan Golf Federation, the Hassan II Trophy Association, the Ministry of Tourism, the Moroccan National Tourism Office and Moroccan professional golf operators. The last professional Tourism days were, let us remember, dedicated to golf and were organized in March by the ONMT, making it possible to better unite all operators around a common approach and objective.
An ambitious action plan aimed at accelerating and strengthening the golf sector in Morocco in the face of competition and making it a significant source of foreign exchange earnings and a job creation sector while ensuring respect for the environment has been developed. Its implementation by the various parties will make it possible to position Morocco even better and increase its attractiveness.
Note that the IGTM is an event which brings together each year, more than 1,400 professionals and decision-makers from the global golf industry (tour operators, golf resorts, hotels, golf courses, receptionists, airlines, tourist offices, media, etc.). It promotes a climate of meetings and networking between more than 350 specialized tour operators, 40 corporate travel and conference/seminar organizing agencies, 800 tourism players, 150 representatives of the international media.
