During 2013 Marrakech recorded more than 55,000 German tourist arrivals and 147,000 overnight stays. In 2014 (during the first 8 months), the number of Germans who visited Marrakech amounted to 43,000, an increase of + 36.50% compared to the same period in 2013. Overnight stays reached the figure of 115,365, an increase of + 34%.
Remember that Germany is the leading tourist market in the world with more than 82 million trips per year. Frankfurt is the financial capital of Europe and is also the capital of the state of Hesse, which has more than 2 million inhabitants.
34 flights/week serve Marrakech from six German cities: Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf, Hahn, Bonn/Cologne, Memmingen). The 35th flight was inaugurated with the opening of the Frankfurt: Marrakech route. Three lines are already scheduled to provide the connection between Marrakech and other cities in Germany and Austria during the 2014/2015 season with 2 frequencies per week. These are:
Dusseldorf – Marrakech by Air Berlin
Hamburg – Marrakech by Germania and
Vienna – Marrakech by Niki Air.
With this air dynamic, Marrakech begins the season under good auspices and thus confirms its leadership as the Kingdom’s leading destination. A large number of international events are already scheduled for the coming months, the strengthening of hotel capacity with the opening of 7 new high-end establishments, not to mention the reopening of the Palais des Congrès (in November 2014) after renovation work.
