Marrakech: Tourism professionals are active in the social sector

Reviving social and cultural activity in Marrakech. This is the objective set by tourism professionals in the ocher city as part of collective efforts for the revival of the sector.

The initiative came from the Barrière Naoura Hotel which has just announced the organization of two events by signing two partnership agreements with the Moroccan League for Child Protection (LMPE) and the Marrakech Crafts Training and Qualification Center. “These agreements aim to support the two key sectors that are affected by the crisis,” said a press release.  These agreements aim, on the one hand, to support the training of young people in craft professions, particularly professions that are in danger of disappearing, and on the other hand, to support the action of the LMPE with children in precarious and vulnerable situations, underlined Rachid Assoudi, CEO of this hotel establishment of the French Lucien Barrière Group.  Founded in 1912, this group today has 18 hotels, 34 casinos and 120 restaurants around the world.

“Our duty as a hotelier is to be sensitive to the social dynamics of the city of Marrakech and to try to create a solitary ecosystem with different actors in the field,” added Mr. Assoudi. For her part, Lamia Lazrak, President of the LMPE of Marrakech, welcomed this initiative. “This agreement constitutes support for our social institution which takes care of abandoned children, to carry out its mission for which it was created since 1954,” indicates Ms. Lazrak.

Concerning the agreement concluded with the training and qualification center for craft professions, Mr. Assoudi recalled his establishment’s commitment to supporting the craft sector. And to affirm “We have initiated a series of actions and decisions, to consolidate our solidarity approach towards all indirect stakeholders in the hotel sectors, including crafts. This is how we have graciously made available to this Center a permanent space to be able to exhibit artisanal products accessible to guests of the hotel. He also reaffirmed that the establishment “does not receive any compensation” in return. For Abdellaziz Rghioui, director of the Training and Qualification Center for Craft Trades, this initiative is to be welcomed because it represents important support for the artisans of the said center.
