Some 18 tourist units with a total investment of 750 million DH will soon be carried out in the Meknes prefecture, according to the regional Tourism delegation in Meknes.
With a total bed capacity of some 1,804 beds, these tourism projects, currently being studied, will generate more than 500 jobs, notes the same source.
Other tourist units with a capacity of 106 beds are being built with an overall budget of 21 million DH, specifies the delegation in a report on tourist activity in Meknes in 2016.
The same source notes that the year 2016 was marked by the completion of two tourist projects with a capacity of 82 beds, with a total cost of 22 million DH.
The prefecture of Meknes has 77 classified tourist accommodation establishments with a bed capacity of 4,343 beds and 10 other unclassified establishments with a total capacity of 402 beds.
In 2016, tourist nights in the city’s classified accommodation establishments were 198,873, a decrease of 5% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Regarding arrivals in classified hotels during the same period, they were of the order of 128,838, a decrease of 6% compared to 2015.
The average length of stay was 1.5 days while the occupancy rate was 23% compared to the previous year.
The evolution of the tourism sector in the city of Meknes is particularly explained by the increase in overnight stays recorded by the main European source markets including the Germans, the French and the Spanish, in addition to the Americans and Arab countries.
