Agadir wants to position itself on the sports tourism market
On the sidelines of CHAN 2018, the Souss-Massa Regional Investment Center organized a round table on Monday under the theme “sport, an investment niche with high added value for Agadir”.
The city of Agadir and its region wish to develop an offer of coherent and complementary products and services capable of establishing the vocation of the destination as a reference in high-level sports tourism and which today has strong added value. To do this, a round table under the theme “Sport, an investment niche with high added value for Agadir” was held on Monday at the initiative of the CRI Souss-Massa, and which brought together several local investors, experts and professionals. They focused on the potential of the city of Agadir, which seems to naturally position it as a destination for sports practice in general and more particularly for high-level sports training. According to the speakers, no clear vision has been developed or at least shared to build, promote and develop this product. Constantly looking for a unique tourist offer, high-level sports tourism is nevertheless an axis which has all the levers to promote the image of Agadir.
In addition to the mild climate that the destination enjoys throughout the year, its sunshine and its iodized coastline ideal for the preparation of great athletes, Agadir has a large stadium meeting international standards, indoor sports halls, fitness centers, weight training rooms and latest generation physical preparation, as well as an exceptional offer in number and quality of tennis courts and many other assets which make it the ideal stopover for high-level athletes to prepare for their seasons of competitions. According to Khalil Nazih, director of the CRI, « the latter has accompanied with great interest the recent actions which have confirmed the enormous potential that this niche represents for the promotion and economic development of this investment niche, including for example the training course of the Crystal Palace FC football team in March 2017, the training course of Pierre-Ambroise Bosse last June, as well as the European Stand-up Paddle champion surfer, Bénoit Carpenter”. And to add that the city of Agadir provides all the necessary ingredients to develop this type of activity, in particular a high-level tourist offer, fitness centers, state-of-the-art sports halls, 14 high-end specialized clinic projects are planned, areas dedicated to activity and sports projects.
