Onomo Hotels acquires the Cantor Hotels group
Onomo Hotels, the 3-star hotel group present in several African countries, is strengthening its presence in Morocco by taking a “majority stake” in the Cantor Hotels group. It thus integrates six Moroccan hotels into its portfolio
The Onomo Hotels group announced, on June 6, its strategic partnership with the Moroccan chain Cantor Hotel. An alliance that will allow it to expand its portfolio to two new Moroccan cities: Casablanca and Tangier. The group already has two hotels in Rabat. In total, six hotels (totaling 740 rooms) will come under the flags of the Onomo Hotels group, including four which are currently under construction.
The pan-African group, created in 2009, and which has established its headquarters in Casablanca Finance City since 2015, has not yet wished to reveal the percentage of stake in the Moroccan hotel group Cantor, contenting itself with announcing a “majority stake”. To prepare this transaction, Onomo Hôtels was advised by the firm Gide Loyrette Nouel, and the shareholders of the Cantor group by the firm Dentons. “This new partnership is part of the logic of accelerating the development and geographical diversification of the Onomo Hotels group on the African continent”, indicates the press release. In addition to Morocco, the group is present in eight African cities: Dakar, Abidjan, Libreville, Bamako, Lomé, Cape Town, Sandton, Conakry, Kigali and Durban.
During the first half of 2018, the Pan-African group integrated five new hotels, bringing the number of rooms operated by the brand to around 1,600. By 2020, it has set itself the objective of increasing its African presence to “around twenty hotels”, to “become the first pan-African hotel platform in the 3-star sector”, aimed at business customers.
