Investments: Morocco, the most attractive country in Africa
Building on its political stability and its undeniable economic progress, Morocco is now positioned as the most attractive country on the African continent, according to the 2017 attractiveness barometer published Wednesday by the international firm Ernst & Young (EY).
In this index, introduced for the first time in 2016, Morocco comes first ahead of Kenya and South Africa, who are tied for second place.
Fourth position goes to Ghana, ahead of Tanzania, fifth. No North African country appears in the top 10 most attractive African destinations for investors.
Morocco thus makes a notable advance after the second place occupied in 2016 on this same barometer, which is based on the weight of foreign direct investments (FDI) to measure the resilience of each country in the face of macro-economic pressures but also the progress made in sensitive long-term areas such as governance, diversification of the economy, infrastructure, business and human development.
No less than 46 African countries are classified in this barometer which serves as a reference for international investors.
Investor confidence in the future prospects of the Moroccan economy is strengthening thanks to the stability enjoyed by the Kingdom, including during the period of turbulence experienced by North Africa in the context of the Arab Spring, indicates EY.
“Morocco has also managed to improve its image as an export base for Europe, Africa and the Middle East”, underlines the firm, noting that the automobile industry in Morocco continues to attract the interest of investors, an interest which has resulted in a significant increase in FDI in this sector from only five projects in 2014 to 14 in 2016.
