Follow La Vie Éco on Telegram Morocco committed, Monday in Geneva, to strengthening the rights and economic empowerment of women. During the high-level meeting commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, underlined Morocco’s commitment to consolidating women’s rights, through the revision of the Family Code, and the promotion of women’s economic empowerment. The commitments made by the Kingdom during this event, organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, include the generalization of social protection in order to support global social justice, accelerate the transition to a green economy and address the effects of climate change. Abdellatif Ouabi underlined the Kingdom’s commitment to continuing to fight against hate speech and violent extremism and to consolidating the values of peace, tolerance and coexistence. As part of this meeting, Morocco presented a common commitment with Paraguay and Portugal to work to facilitate the institutionalization of cooperation, dialogue and the exchange of expertise and experience, through the establishment of an international network of these national mechanisms in 2024, which will help to encourage the creation and development of these mechanisms, so as to strengthen the interaction of States with the international human rights system. This commitment was born, according to the Minister of Justice, from an awareness of the importance of the role of national implementation, reporting and monitoring mechanisms for the preparation and presentation of reports, monitoring the implementation of recommendations and interaction with national and international human rights mechanisms, in accordance with the resolutions of the Human Rights Council relating to national mechanisms and in consistency with the efforts of the Group of Friends of these mechanisms and the Marrakech Declaration published in December 2022. This international meeting, whose program includes various sessions and round tables, aims to strengthen the global consensus on the universality of human rights, to design a vision of human rights for the next 25 years and to highlight the achievements obtained since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
