Moroccan tourism: Vision 2020

tourisme-maroc

After the implementation of an impulse strategy by Vision 2010, Vision 2020 arrives in a logic of consolidation. The new objective is to make Morocco one of the 20 most popular destinations for tourists instead of the 26th that it currently is at the end of Vision 2010.
The objectives of Vision 2020 are not lacking in ambition: doubling tourist accommodation capacity with the construction of 200,000 new beds, reaching the 20 million tourist mark by doubling the market share in the main traditional European markets and attracting a million tourists from emerging markets. To achieve these objectives, the country should see six new tourist destinations gradually appear over the decade to relay the growth of the two already existing centers of Marrakech and Agadir. A new framework for the tourism sector must be put in place and will be based on three axes: firstly a policy of territorial planning of the tourist offer to diversify it, then a new governance structure which will establish the transversality of the sector and finally an integrated sustainable development approach to avoid the degradation of ecosystems and a negative impact on local communities.
The realization of this Vision 2020 requires the training of 132,000 young people by 2020 as well as an investment of approximately 21.8 billion US dollars, of which the State will contribute approximately 4 billion. At the end of the decade, tourism will become the country’s leading industry with the creation of 470,000 new jobs and will employ nearly a million Moroccans. Tourism revenues are expected to amount to 17.3 billion US dollars in 2020, a cumulative sum over the decade of around 123 billion US dollars.
