Morocco faces a tourism crisis
In Morocco, the tourism sector is looking grim. Since the assassination, at the end of 2014, of French guide Hervé Gourdel in Algeria and the attacks in Bardo and Sousse in Tunisia, European vacationers are also hesitant to go to Morocco. According to operators, the country recorded a 45% drop in tourist arrivals between January and May 2015. While tourism represents nearly 15% of GDP. However, despite the deterioration of the security situation in the region, Morocco was classified as one of the safest countries in the world in the census of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. While waiting for confidence to return, the tourism crisis is palpable, particularly in the famous seaside resort of Agadir, in the south of Morocco.
