Morocco on the podium of the three countries where French retirees settle the most

Thanks to cost of living and the widespread use of the French language on its territory, Morocco remains one of the preferred destinations for French retirees looking for a peaceful place where they can spend the rest of their lives in good conditions. This is what emerges from the annual ranking survey of retirement havens abroad for the year 2018, published by the French site Retraite sans Frontières.

According to the media, the Shereef kingdom comes in third position behind Portugal and Thailand, thus outranking the island of Bali, Mauritius, the Dominican Republic or even Senegal, Tunisia and even Spain and Greece.

Explaining the reasons for the influx of French retirees in Morocco, the site evokes a welcoming and French-speaking people, a sunny climate and mild winters, a geographical proximity to France, a large community of French expatriates, a cost of living 40% cheaper and finally economical services for the elderly.

However, Morocco also has disadvantages, the most important of which, according to Retraite sans Frontières, is the health system. Indeed, public sector hospital structures lack resources and suffer from poor management. Outside of big cities, hospitals cannot treat serious cases of pathology, he says.

The number of French people living in Morocco is estimated at nearly 50,000 according to the survey cited above. They are distributed mainly in tourist areas and large cities on the coast, as well as in Marrakech.
