Morocco’s new ambitions for tourism and air travel

Morocco unveiled its new ambitions for the air and tourism sectors in 2023. It was during Connect 2023, organized in Tangier until February 24. “The national airport network currently offers a capacity of 39 million passengers per year and is set to develop even further,” declared Habiba Laklalech, general director of the National Airports Office (ONDA) on the sidelines of Connect 2023. The ambition of her office is to reach 60 million passengers by 2030, reports the daily Les Inspirations Éco. To meet this challenge, ONDA is banking on securing and building loyalty in traditional tourist-producing markets in Europe, but also on the massive arrival of Asian tourists, particularly from China. Read: In Marrakech, tourism is gradually recovering The Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) also has great ambitions, the indicators communicated by various national officials in charge of these strategic sectors having shown that Morocco is on the way to reaching its level before the Covid-19 crisis. “At the end of 2022, Morocco’s programming by airlines has exceeded the level before the health crisis,” says Adel El Fakir, general director of the ONMT. Several agreements and partnerships have already been signed between the Office and several airlines. In all, 35 new lines to serve eight Moroccan destinations will be activated during the 2023 summer season, in partnership with ten airlines, it is specified.
