Morocco wins the University Scientific Grand Prize in the United States
Since the start of this year 2023, Morocco has secured a good harvest of gold medals in international innovation competitions. The latest being the “Innovation Week America” competition. Of all the participating innovative projects, only one Moroccan project managed to win the prize.
After being a leader this year in scientific innovation abroad, Morocco obtained the most prestigious scientific innovation prize in the United States. Indeed, the Kingdom managed to win the Scientific Grand Prize as part of its participation in the 2023 edition of the international competition for inventors and Innovations, entitled Innovation Week America 2023 (IWA 2023) and which took place in several American cities. The project in question is the prerogative of the director of the Technological Innovation Center of the Mohammedia School of Engineers (EMI) in Rabat, Professor Hassan Ammor who, on this occasion, revealed to us exclusively that this distinction concerns his project of « intelligent radiofrequency scanner for the detection of breast cancer », about which Maroc Hebdo had interviewed him on behalf of its issue 1508. « Among the twenty-two countries which participated in the competition and which represent almost all continents, we have managed to honor our country,” declares Professor Hassan Ammor. Every year, early detection saves thousands of lives, he notes. He also emphasizes that the earlier breast cancer is detected, the greater the chances of cure. Asked about the cost of the scanner, he said that this breast cancer detection device represents a saving of 90% compared to mammography systems. “The scanner is non-ionizing, smaller and less expensive,” he summarizes. This new medical technological device, after the final version of the prototype, clinical tests and approval, will be launched to serve the national and international community. The aim is to contribute to reducing the mortality rate attributable to breast cancer, which remains the most common cancer in women.
