The Rabat Olympic stadium was not a simple stage in the career of Moroccan runner Soufiane El Bakkali, but the scene of a new chapter written in golden letters. Under the spotlights of the Mohammed VI International Athletics Meeting, in front of thousands of supporters who came to encourage their idol, the world and Olympic champion delivered a breathtaking performance, setting the world’s best time of the season over 3000 m steeplechase in 8 minutes and 70 seconds!
A victory that adds to the legend
This victory is not just another number on El Bakkali’s track record, but a confirmation of his absolute domination in this discipline. After winning this meeting in 2017, 2022, 2023 and 2024, the Moroccan champion won a fifth title, proving that he remains the undisputed master of long-distance races. The spectators witnessed an exceptional sporting spectacle: El Bakkali overcame the obstacles with grace, covering the distances with disconcerting confidence, to finally win hands down, leaving his opponents far behind.
The response after the disappointment in Xiamen
This success is a strong response after his second place during the first stage of the Diamond League in Xiamen (China), where he was beaten by the Ethiopian Samuel Firisa. But this defeat has obviously not undermined the determination of the Moroccan champion, quite the contrary. It fueled his thirst for revenge, as evidenced by his resounding return to the Rabat track, transformed into a fortress where he proudly defended the national colors.
A symbol of hope for Morocco
Soufiane El Bakkali is not just a simple athlete: he embodies the perseverance, talent and pride of a nation. Each of his strides reminds us that he is the young man who transformed his dreams into medals and his challenges into triumphs. The Moroccan public lives each of his exploits with passion, because behind the champion lies a story that goes beyond sport – that of an entire country that believes in him.
Today, after this masterful performance, all eyes are on the next stages of the Diamond League. El Bakkali will, without a doubt, be the number one favorite. Will he be able to maintain this dynamic and push the limits further? History has taught us that he does not like to disappoint his audience… To be continued!
