Tourism: The ONMT intensifies its air connections strategy
As part of its “Light In Action” strategy, the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) is continuing its efforts to strengthen the national air network, with the aim of boosting tourist demand and improving the attractiveness of all regions of the Kingdom. According to a press release from the ONMT, the 2025 summer season looks promising thanks to the opening of numerous new direct connections, in partnership with several international airlines. In Agadir, three new direct lines are being created: two operated by Transavia from Bordeaux and Amsterdam, and one connection from Bournemouth with Jet2. Existing services from Oslo (Norwegian), Berlin, Bristol and Edinburgh (EasyJet) are also renewed. The whole represents around 73,000 additional seats, illustrating the desire to revitalize this seaside resort. In Marrakech, which already benefits from a dense network, the ONMT continues to consolidate its position by launching new routes: from Bordeaux with Transavia and Volotea, Málaga, Edinburgh, London Stansted (EasyJet), as well as Leeds and Newcastle (Jet2). Added to this are renewed connections to Helsinki (Norwegian), Amsterdam, Birmingham, Liverpool (EasyJet), as well as Rome, Budapest and Bucharest (Wizzair). In total, more than 160,000 seats are added, confirming the central role of Marrakech in the Office’s strategy. For its part, the city of Essaouira benefits from a clear increase in power with six new lines: Nantes (Transavia), Seville and Barcelona (Vueling), Lyon (EasyJet), Rabat (Air Arabia) and Paris (Ryanair). These new connections offer more than 38,000 seats, strengthening the accessibility of this destination prized for its authenticity, culture and peaceful atmosphere. In a logic of regional diversification, the ONMT also supports the development of other destinations: In Fez, a new line from Lille (Ryanair); In Rabat, flights from Dublin and Manchester (Ryanair), Málaga (EasyJet), and renewed connections to Milan and Bordeaux (EasyJet); In Tangier, renewal of lines from Bordeaux and Girona (Air Arabia), and a new connection from Copenhagen (Norwegian). Even less connected destinations like Dakhla and Beni Mellal are integrated into this dynamic: Ryanair maintains flights from Madrid and Lanzarote to Dakhla, and opens a domestic connection between Tangier and Beni Mellal. In total, more than 40 new or strategic renewals demonstrate the ONMT’s commitment to densifying the country’s air network. Other openings are currently being studied. Finally, the ONMT emphasizes that this strategy aims not only to diversify source markets and improve the tourist offer, but also to reduce regional disparities by focusing on direct connections to areas with high potential that are still underexploited.
