Tourism: More than 8,000 hotel rooms under development in Morocco

Projects for new hotels continue to emerge in Morocco. In total, 37 are under development, or 8,006 rooms and suites. Of this number, 12 will be classified in the 4-star segment, the rest in the five-star segment. Marrakech will capture 10 of these luxury hotels, followed by Rabat (9 hotels) and Casablanca (6 establishments).

The Moroccan tourism sector continues to be enriched with new hotels. According to data from the international TopHotelConstruction database, 37 luxury hotels, with a total of 8,006 rooms, are under development in Morocco. By the end of 2021, four projects with 616 rooms must still be completed. And next year promises to be equally busy, with 18 hotel launches, or 2,743 keys. Things will be quieter in 2023, with only seven hotels expected to open, with a total of 3,280 rooms added to the local supply.

For 2024 and beyond, eight additional properties will see the light of day, with 1,367 keys already in the pipeline. Of the 37 new hotels in Morocco, 12 will belong to the four-star segment, with the other 25 falling into the five-star category. Marrakech, the Kingdom’s main tourist destination, will acquire ten new hotels with 1,233 rooms. Which places it just ahead of Rabat with its nine future hotels and 1,385 keys. Casablanca completes the Top 3 cities which will see the most hotel openings, with six active projects which should result in a total of 733 rooms.

The first scheduled opening is that of the Fairmont La Marina Rabat-Sale, which should be ready by the end of this year. This property will offer 186 rooms and suites and include several restaurants, a large meeting space, a spa and a fitness center. About a year later, The St Regis Tamuda Bay will open its doors in Tetouan. This property will be part of the La Bahia Blanca resort and will include 100 rooms and suites with sea views, a spa, swimming pool and fitness center.

The resort’s culinary offerings will include a specialty restaurant and an all-day dining restaurant. Finally, the St Regis Moroccan offer will be expanded with another property which will see the light of day in the third quarter of 2025. This is the St Regis Marrakech Resort which will be part of the Assoufid Golf Resort (www.lematin.ma) and will have 96 spacious rooms and villas with views of the Atlas Mountains. In addition to premium leisure facilities, such as a spa, swimming pool and fitness center, the resort will incorporate six distinct dining experiences, including two specialty restaurants.
