Tourism: Morocco smashes all the counters

More than 13.2 million tourists set foot on Moroccan soil during the first eleven months of 2023, exceeding the absolute record of 12.9 million established in 2019. As a bonus, an increase of 36% compared to the same period in 2022.

Morocco continues to attract crowds and break tourist attendance records. The latest figures published by the Ministry of Tourism are eloquent, underlines the daily Les Inspirations Eco in its edition of Friday December 15. For the month of November alone, the country welcomed around 1 million tourists, an increase of 9% year-on-year. Fatim-Zahra Ammor, the responsible minister, is very proud of it. According to her, these performances “encourage and further motivate us to continue the work started with all stakeholders in the sector”. She estimates that the country is “well on track to exceed the target of 14 million tourists by the end of December 2023”. An objective set as part of the 2023-2026 roadmap relating to the development of tourism in Morocco. “The record figures revealed by the ministry demonstrate the growing attractiveness of the Kingdom as a premier tourist destination. They also seem to indicate that Morocco is doing better than resisting regional geopolitical upheavals. Despite the outbreak of an armed conflict in the Middle East, the impact on tourism has not been felt,” notes Les Inspirations Eco. Unlike some of its neighbors, Morocco has therefore not been impacted by this climate of uncertainty. Only reservations from the United States showed a clear decline. French and British customers continue to arrive at the same pace. Proof of the renewed dynamism of Moroccan tourism, these record figures validate the offensive strategy put in place in recent years to increase the attractiveness of the country. This result is driven both by the in-depth work undertaken and by the recovery plans initiated in the face of the covid crisis. A very positive trend which reinforces the authorities in their ambitions for 2026. With a budget of 6.1 billion dirhams, the roadmap for the period 2023-2026 aims to attract 17.5 million tourists by 2026, compared to 11 million in 2022. The objective being to generate 120 billion dirhams in foreign currency revenue compared to 91 billion in 2022. In terms of jobs, we plan to create 200,000 new positions, including 80,000 direct. To achieve these objectives, the ministry intends to stimulate public/private investment in new infrastructure, develop new tourism products and strengthen its air offering.
