Tourism: Cries of distress from operators in the sector
The Moroccan tourism industry continues to suffer the disastrous consequences of the Covid-19 health crisis, and has been doing so since March 2020, i.e. 20 months!
The National Tourism Confederation has just published a press release to request, among other things, the deployment of all the measures provided for in the program contract.
“The latest decision to suspend all flights to and from destination of four major destination markets Morocco (Germany, United Kingdom and Holland, in addition to Russia closed for several weeks), reduces hopes of recovery to nothing. Are these there? emitter basins for the winter season which close, a? a moment or? we were hoping for legitimately awaited decisions to reopen and accelerate the recovery.
These ads have caused? cascading cancellations not only of the aforementioned markets, but also of our traditional markets, which fear an extension of these measures to their countries.
The meeting of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization, which was scheduled for 2019, Marrakech from November 30 to December 3, 2021, would have been? a formidable signal of the start of the recovery, and an exceptional showcase on the world of the tourism industry for the Moroccan destination.
Unfortunately, Morocco has given up? has? welcome this event, which will inevitably have the consequence of further deepening our distance from the markets, and undermining the confidence of our prescribers.
Similarly, the recent announcement of the maintenance by our country of all restrictions linked to mobility?, in addition to exigibility? of the health pass, causes deep incomprehension among operators in the sector, who see this as not a very reassuring signal about the timetable for resuming activities linked to the health pass. the tourism industry, despite? an indisputable improvement in the health situation in our country.
The National Tourism Confederation and all operators in the sector are aware of the important and necessary efforts that must be made to preserve the health gains of our country, which constitutes a priority? absolute for all economic players and all citizens. We subscribe without reservation. However, in the absence of concrete and immediate support measures, the height of the worsening of the situation which is that of our sector, we fear a difficulty? growing has? consider the future of our industry, and ultimately, an implosion of its economic fabric.
Certainly, a 2020-2022 program contract had been? e?develops? with the government and its various partners to support businesses in the sector and preserve jobs. Unfortunately, the measures planned in this program contract have not all been implemented. deployed, and the situation is becoming more and more untenable for tourism companies, all trades combined, which have already dry? their cash flow.
Is he a? remember that the payment of compensation? flat rate of 2000 DH for the benefit of employees in the sector has ceased? since June 30, 2021. Likewise, tax revenue orders continue to be issued, thus exposing many companies to? risks of litigation.
Also, it becomes urgent and vital to accelerate the deployment of all the measures of the program contract not yet applied, and to resume payment of compensation? flat rate for the benefit of employees in the sector in order to preserve their jobs.
Despite? the difficulties of this unprecedented crisis, the CNT intends to contribute to? a stronger, more competitive, more sustainable and more resilient Moroccan tourism economy. This cannot be envisaged? as part of co-construction with public authorities, permanent dialogue and the implementation of solutions adapted to? the scale of the crisis and the systemic risk in the sector.”
