Operation Marhaba 2017: Nearly a million MRE welcomed as of July 16
For the moment, there are already 968,096 Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) who have been welcomed as of July 16 since the launch of Operation Marhaba 2017, indicates a press release from the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity. The arrival of these MREs took place at the various maritime, air and land access points.
This year’s flow records an increase in arrivals of 5.36% on this date compared to 2016, specifies the Foundation, noting that 452,559 people reached the motherland by air and 515,537 by sea. The Tanger Med Port reception site remains the preferred access point for MREs with a share of 30% of arrivals.
A large influx will be recorded from the 3rd week of July, which corresponds to the big departures from the summer holidays, notes the press release, noting that since its start on June 5, the Marhaba 2017 operation to welcome MREs has continued in good conditions. 28,962 people were supported by medical and social teams, adds the Foundation, specifying that 4,157 people were medically assisted (medical care and support), while 24,805 cases are linked to administrative, transport and legal assistance.
This year, nearly 1,000 people were mobilized and 20 reception sites were activated. 5 sites are thus distributed between France, Italy and Spain, while 15 national sites are located in ports, airports and rest areas. Note that 3 new sites were launched this year in the ports of Motril, in the south of Spain, of Tangier City, as well as at Marrakech Menara airport in order to support the increase in flows.
Last year, more than 2.6 million nationals chose to spend their summer in Morocco. Reception is provided by a social and medical assistance service permanently available to support and take charge of situations that may arise and to respond as best as possible to needs for help, information and relief.
