Archivage Maroc celebrates its National Day and unveils its new digitalization and legal revision strategy

The Archives Institution of Morocco celebrates the National Archives Day, which coincides with November 30 of each year, commemorating the promulgation of Law 69.99 relating to archives in 2007, this law marked a key step in the modernization of the State and the strengthening of its institutions, by placing archives at the center of official interest and by promoting their scientific, cultural, legal, and developmental

In a press release, the Institution explained that its creation reflects a growing awareness and the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who has made the promotion of archives a essential tool for the preservation of collective memory and the completion of the construction of the rule of law

This anniversary is an opportunity to highlight the importance of the Institution’s efforts in: Protection of national documentary heritage. The dissemination of a culture of archiving within administrations and institutions, the anchoring of good practices in document management to make information accessible to citizens revealed that it is currently deploying a new strategy aimed at developing its infrastructure and modernizing its working mechanisms, thereby strengthening its role as a strategic institution contributing to modernization and overall development efforts, current priorities include full engagement in the digital environment and mobilization of the necessary human and logistical resources,

This year saw the effective launch of the project to process and digitize paper archives, the improvement of its IT security system, the creation of its digital portal and the modernization of its visual identity. In addition, Archives du Maroc is leading an important multidimensional project to revise Law 69.99 relating to archives, in order to bring it up to the expectations of the Institution and all national stakeholders, by supporting Morocco’s major reforms, in particular the implementation of advanced regionalization and the strengthening of the principles of efficiency, performance and transparency

On this occasion, the Institution announced the provision of a significant set of public and private archive funds for users, including in particular the “Route of Unity” fund (Tariq Al Wahda), the fund relating to the “Arbitration Committee for Mining Conflicts in Morocco”, as well as the funds of the academician and historian Haïm Zafrani and the journalist and writer Mustapha Jmahri.
