17.4 million visitors to Morocco: What is the secret of this tourist success?

In 2024, Morocco recorded an exceptional tourism performance, welcoming 17.4 million visitors, an increase of 20% compared to the previous year. This progression generated foreign exchange earnings reaching an unprecedented level of 112 billion dirhams, showing an increase of 43% compared to 2019 and 7% compared to 2023. This growth is attributed to several factors, including the opening of new air links to key markets, the promotion of lesser known destinations within the country and the renovation of hotel infrastructure. The Minister of Tourism, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, stressed that these results reflect the maturity of the Moroccan tourism sector, which has been able to adapt to new global trends while capitalizing on its natural, cultural and human assets. Tourism represents around 7% of Morocco’s gross domestic product and is a key source of jobs and foreign exchange. The distribution of arrivals in 2024 is balanced between foreign tourists (51%) and Moroccans living abroad (49%), demonstrating the constant attractiveness of the country for these two segments. Additionally, Morocco is preparing to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, an event that is expected to further boost its international profile and attract an additional influx of visitors. These exceptional results demonstrate the relevance of the strategic roadmap for Moroccan tourism and position the Kingdom as an essential destination on the global tourism scene.
