TOURISM: THREE TIMES MORE CHINESE IN MOROCCO IN 2016

Operations to promote the Morocco destination to Chinese tourists continue, while the number of visitors from this country has tripled in one year.

The operation to seduce Chinese tourists continues in Marrakech, Morocco’s main tourist destination. Indeed, the Regional Tourism Center and the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) have just welcomed, in the ocher city, a delegation of around twenty travel agents from the Shanghai region as well as the Tour Operator (TO) China International Travel Service (CITS) for a discovery visit to the tourist attractions of Marrakech.

This initiative is part of a series of measures taken recently and the impact of which is beginning to be felt. Indeed, the number of Chinese visitors to Morocco increased from 12,000 visitors in 2015 to 35,000 in 2016 and 80% of them opted for Marrakech. Ultimately, Morocco sets itself the objective of reaching 100,000 Chinese visitors per year by 2018.

Recall that to achieve this, Morocco had already decided to cancel the visa requirement for Chinese nationals. It had also concluded partnerships with new airlines providing connections between Morocco and the six largest Chinese cities, via the hubs of Doha and Abu Dhabi (Qatar Airaways, Etihad Airways).

Other promotion and communication actions targeting the Chinese tourist market are planned throughout 2017.
