CAN 2023: the Sophia hotel will be the base camp of the Atlas Lions
The FRMF has reserved an entire hotel, in San Pedro, for the stay of the national team, which will participate in the final phase of CAN 2023 scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Ivory Coast. This article is a press review taken from the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has reserved the entire Sophia Hotel, in San Pedro, for the stay of the national team which will participate in the final phase of CAN 2023, scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Ivory Coast. The FRMF opted for this formula after the national coach, Walid Regragui, deplored the state of the residence made available to the Moroccan delegation by the CAN organizing committee. An authorized source told Al Ahdath Al Maghribia that the FRMF had looked for a suitable place of residence for a long time before choosing the Sophia hotel, located on the beach in the town of San Pedro. This establishment has 74 rooms, an air-conditioned restaurant and another on the beach, in addition to a terrace opening directly onto a private beach, a meeting room and a second room reserved for press conferences. The same source underlines that the FRMF will renovate the various spaces of this hotel and equip its kitchen, which will be supervised by Moroccan chefs. The body headed by Fouzi Lekjaa has always strived to offer the best conditions to the players of the national team, who aim to win this trophy for the second time in their history, after that won in 1976 in Ethiopia.
In order to avoid any unpleasant surprises, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, the FRMF sent a delegation to the city of San Pedro, which will host the matches of the group stage of the national team during CAN 2023. The members of the delegation inspected the residence that the CAF organizing committee had reserved for the Atlas Lions, knowing that the city does not have hotels classified 4 or 5 stars. At the end of this inspection, they established a report containing several negative observations and regretted, in particular, that the place did not meet the usual requirements of the FRMF.
